The International Award-Winning San Jose Holiday Parade, considered one of the top 25 parades in America, kicked off the holiday season this morning.

The parade is the largest of its kind in Northern California.  It ushered in the holidays with giant helium balloons, over two dozen marching bands, creative floats, dozens of specialty units, clowns and of course Santa Claus.

The 27th Annual parade showcased approximately 90 entries that included 5,000 marchers special guest appearances by several celebrities.

There is also a Disney photo contest connected to the parade. Click here to get all the details.

The parade started off on Santa Clara Street and Delmas Avenue, near the HP Pavilion, at 8:30 a.m. and proceeded east on Santa Clara Street.

More than 125,000 parade-goers lined the route last year and the crowd was similar this year.

Riding on the route was our own Morning News team including Brent Cannon, Laura Garcia-Cannon, Craig Herrera, Mike Inouye and Scott McGrew.

The parade was anchored this year by Lisa Kim and Jessica Aguirre.  Popular street reporter Bob Redell was back with his typical and funny reports from the route.  Damian Trujillo took the mic for the crowd on hand and Craig Herrera was also there.

NBC Bay Area supports more than 100 community events throughout the Bay Area each year.
