Charlie Murphy stepped out of his brother's shadow long ago but you may not have noticed.

The comedian has been on a 17 year path to seperate himself from his famous younger brother, Eddie Murphy.

But ironically it was his relationship with his brother that brought him to national prominence that will be on display on Nov. 21 through Nov. 23 at the San Jose Improv.

Charlie Murphy first got noticed for telling stories about his brother for the "Chappelle Show" called "Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories."

His encounters with Prince and Rick James as part of his brother's entourage drew him a cult following and two sold out comedy tours.

But Charlie Murphy had established himself long before telling whether he liked Prince's waffles.

Eddie's older brother has worked with actors such as Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Eddie Murphy, Danny Aiello , Vanessa Williams, Rip Torn, Peter Falk, Redd Fox, Angela Bassett, Wesley Snipes, Jamie Foxx, Samuel Jackson and Sammy Davis, Jr.

Murphy has also been in movies such as "Kings Ransom," "Roll Bounce," "CB4," "Jungle Fever," "Mo' Betta Blues," "Harlem Nights" and "Vampire in Brooklyn."

Charlie Murphy also wrote the movie "Norbit," which starred his brother and opened at #1 at the box office.

In 2004, Charlie Murphy went out on his sold out comedy tour called the "I'm Rich Bitch" tour, featuring "Chappelle's Show" cast members Donnell Rawlings and Bill Burr.

He followed it up with a tour in 2005 called "Charlie Murphy and Friends."

Murphy will do three nights at the Improv starting Nov. 21. For information or tickets on the show visit the Improv.
