440 Brannan

440 Brannan is submerged below ground level on a block that otherwise goes unnoticed as a shopping destination. In fact, the store is only identifiable by a single row of bowling pins in the upstairs window and a small framed sign in the street level window that reads "440 Brannan Street."

But don’t be deterred by the modest facade.

Once inside, you will be inundated by sophisticated merchandise created by local artists. The store is the brainchild of Roger Alan, who opened the shop in 1998 to promote Bay Area designers. Items range in price from $26 to $300.

The atmosphere is clean, crisp and minimal, the perfect backdrop for the line-up of cutting edge clothing that adorns each hanger. Collections are continuously evolving as the seasons change. Not to be missed amongst the assemblage is gr dano, created by Sausalito designers Jill Giordano & Brian Scheyer.

If you prefer the lighter side of fashion, check out the popular Muni t-shirts. Do you ride to work on the 30 Stockton or perhaps the 1 California? Declare your affiliation with one of these clever commuter line tees. Choose from the 14 Mission, 22 Fillmore, 30 Stockton, 1 California 31 Balboa, 33 Stanyan, J Church & S Castro Shuttle. Available in mens and women's, sized S-M-L, and priced at $26.

It’s less expensive than a Fast Pass!
