Ghirardelli Ready to Try the Whole "Rebirth" Thing Again

Ghirardelli Square: It was about a year ago that the $100 million Ghirardelli revitalization project took flight; 12 months later, work on the Gary Danko brasserie is still quiet while O'Neill's and Marche are both shuttered. News of the two replacements—The Pub and Sogno—came out last month, and this week, the latest chapter finally begins, with The Pub opening on Thursday.
The BizTimes brings forth more details on The Pub: in old O'Neill's space, it's going to be barbeque joint from the folks who also own Aces and Bell Tower. There will be about 80 seats in the 3,000 square-foot space and the plan (at least for now) is to serve food until 1:30am.
As for the main event, the Gary Danko sequel, things might get up and running again very soon:
Chapman said that Garry [sic] Danko's planned 7,000-square-foot brasserie had a construction meeting this week and that work will start soon. The restaurant might be open by Christmas 2009.
Meanwhile, the deal for the Marche space is apparently still in lease negotiations with the Pazzia people and another unnamed party.
