Ike's Has a Special Sauce to Alleviate NIMBY Fears

Now that Ike's Place has the City's blessing to open in a new place, is the owner of the popular sandwich restaurant going to take steps to alleviate NIMBY fears?

Owner Ike Shehadeh tells Eater SF that he is taking steps to ensure the problems that plagued his old San Francisco location won't inflict his new one on 3489 16th St.

Shehadeh said he will use specially made TurboChef hybrid oven conveyor belt, which will cut down the time it takes to make a sandwich from 11 minutes to three minutes.

He is using similar equipment at his Redwood Shores and Stanford locations. The hope is the faster preparation time will cut down the lines.

To further cut down on lines and to keep people off the street, the new restaurant will also have 48-feet of space for people to wait in line indoors and a second waiting area indoors.

But before any of this can go into effect, Shehadeh has to wait for a permit to install a ventilation hood. That could happen on Jan. 13.

The second Ike's location in San Francisco at San Francisco State University won't open until Jan. 25, which means San Francisco could be Ike-less for a month, unless Shehadeh can renegotiate his current deal to operate out of Lime.
