Oakland Readies for World's Largest Food Hall

Jack London Square market revealed

On Monday, Richard Corbo became the latest big name to sign on to the Jack London Square revitalization, joining the likes of Rick Hackett and Daniel Patterson, among others.

But in all likelihood, the centerpiece of the project will be the actual marketplace itself, which will cost $300 million and be three times the size of the Ferry Building, making it the largest food hall in the country. It's obviously been years in the making, but the renderings should give a sense of its scope, so please do enjoy the eye candy.

Patterson's 3000-square-foot Bracina will be on the hall's ground floor. While Rising culinary star Corbo will open Pizzeria Zanna Bianca at Jack London Square.

Developers are projecting 15 new restaurants to open there in the next two years. Only three have officially signed on so far; in addition to the two aforementioned, the BizTimes reveals that MarketBar's Rich Hackett will open the 6500-square-foot "Pan-American grill" Bocanova next summer.

Also, Roland Passot's ubiquitous brasserie chain Left Bank is rumored to be considering a new location on the Oakland waterfront while chains like Tony Roma's and Friday's will continue to be pushed out for more upscale tenants.
