San Francisco Street Food Gets National Love

Spencer on the Go featured in GQ magazine

It's official: San Francisco has some of the best street food in the country. At least according to GQ.

The men's magazine dubbed frog legs and wine, being served out of the back of a suped up tack truck, one of the 10 best food trucks in America. Renowned French chef Laurent Katgely's Spencer on the Go came out of a bizarre twist of fate.

GQ tells us that Katgely came up with the idea after getting "a little heated during service." To calm himself down he walked to a local taco truck and the rest is history:

It was there that he had a vision: French food on the street. Now, voilà! Spencer on the Go! Parked in front of an oil-and-lube joint a few blocks from Katgely’s acclaimed bistro, Chez Spencer, his satellite operation serves sautéed skate cheeks with caper emulsion and green beans in a butter-lettuce bowl; sweetbreads with smoked bacon and truffle sauce; and a substantial lobster salad with sliced citrus.

Katgely began his business by purchasing and refurbishing an old taco truck in fine French fashion. After converting the truck, the French chef began serving the likes of grilled sweetbreat with sherry, Escargo puffs, frog legs, and curry and of course a Ratatouille inspired dish.
