Kohl's expanding in 5 cities

If you love to shop, need a job, and live in the San Francisco Bay Area -- you're in luck, there's an opening at a department store near you.

Kohl's Department Stores is expanding in the area and plans to open six new stores in October. That means they need fill openings for sales clerks, stockers, some executive-level and other positions.

Hundreds of people filled out applications Sunday for about 1,000 new positions at five Bay Area cities for the stores opening in Millbrae, Mountain View, Napa, Redwood City, San Rafael and Hayward. The job fair was one in a series the the retailer began a part of their search to fill the upcoming openings.

Kohl's took over 30 stores left empty when Hayward-based rival company Mervyn's filed for bankruptcy last year. Former Mervyn's employees are being encouraged apply for the Kohl's jobs.

The new stores will add more than 4,000 jobs to California's job market and increase the number of Kohl's stores in the state to 121.

The company encourages job-seekers to call first or visit the store's Web site to set up an interview.
