Gavin Newsom is a Metrosexual

Ryan Seacrest bestows title on SF mayor

It's official: San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom is a metrosexual. It takes one to know one and quite possibly the king of all metrosexuals officially dubbed the gubernatorial hopeful a heterosexual male with a strong concern for how he looks.

Newsom was flexing his good looks and his slick hair on Ryan Seacrest's Los Angeles-based radio show as he is greasing his campaign for governor in Southern California over the next few days.

The mayor talked about everything from his new Napa wine company (he named it Cade and it just opened this week for the record) to his unborn baby to the type of product he uses in his shiny palette.

After a series of semi serious questions, Seacrest dropped the light hearted question about what Newsom uses to keep his hair so shiny and slick.

"Unbelievable," Newsom said with a laugh. (But) actually this may help. It's $4.99 so I may get some bottles sent my way. I'm embarrassed, Ryan, because your the first to ask me this directly. And it deserves, because I don't want to be like those other politicians, a direct response. It's Loreal and its the clean gel. The total clean gel. They've got seven, eight products and the others don't work."

The candid answer drew laughs from Seacrest's camp and the official bestowment of the coveted metrosexual title on the mayor.

Newsom went on to say that he has not had much time for fun lately because he has been campaigning too much. He said he was in town to hold a series of town hall meetings in the Los Angeles and Santa Barabara areas.

"No leisure (for me)," Newsom said. "But, no campaigning is fun...town halls are actually what I enjoy the most."

And when Seacrest asked him why Californians should vote for him, the mayor said voters just need to look at what he has done.

"Look at the record again," he said. "We are not asserting a point of view on health care. We are actually doing it. We are not talking about the importance of early childhood education. We are actually doing it. We are not talking about  the importance of leading the way in terms of environmental stewardship. We are doing it."
