What's the Best Thing Between Two Buns? Kim Kardashian, Batali, Our Crew Weigh In

In honor of this weekend's episode of 1st Look, Best Thing Between Two Buns, we asked celebrities, tastemakers, gourmands, industry insiders, and even our crew, what they think is the absolute best thing between two buns. Here's what they said:

Plain hot dogs with just ketchup and plain cheeseburgers… and it has to be American cheese. I don't eat cheddar.
Kim Kardashian, reality TV star

Hmmm, there are a lot of great things that could go between two buns. I better not go there for fear of censorship! I have a dirty mind...
Nur Khan, co-owner of Kenmare and Electric Room

Cheeseburger
Jason Derulo, singer / songwriter

Goat Burger from "Little Goat"
Stephanie Izard, Top Chef Season 4 Winner / author / chef

Frank Falcinelli, chef / co-owner of Frankies Spuntino

Mike Chernow, general manager / co-owner of The Meatball Shop

I'm always down to stop at a Halal truck and grab a grilled chicken kabob on a hot dog bun with that spicy sauce they have.
Dan Holzman, executive chef / co-owner of The Meatball Shop

I prefer the bun to anything inside of it. In fact, give me two or three buns.
Melanie Dunea, photographer / author of "My Last Supper: The Next Course"

The porchetta sandwich at Locanda Verde is majorly good to me. It really is my favorite.
Andrew Carmellini, chef / co-owner The Dutch, Locanda Verde

Pork Buns!
Spike Mendelsohn, Top Chef Season 4, chef / owner of Good Stuff Eatery and We, The Pizza

Duh!
Serge Becker, co-owner of Miss Lily's, La Esquina, The Box

The pulled pork lunchtime sandwich at Dickson's Farmstand in Chelsea. At least that was last week's favorite.
Adam Platt, New York Magazine restaurant critic

Pork belly from David Chang or a hot dog from Grey's Papaya
Mario Batali, chef

And, who said those guys above are the experts at knowing what's the best thing between two buns? Here's what our food-loving crew said:

Hands down a Smith's hot dog from my hometown Erie, PA. They're skin-on wieners, so my family affectionately calls them "snappy dogs"!
Maria Sansone, host of 1st Look

Peanut Butter and Nutella, or Jelly and Nutella… basically, anything with Nutella.
Beth Gerstenbluth, Executive Producer of 1st Look

Anything slow-cooked and juicy
Caroline Kim, LXTV Editorial Director

Choripán, invented in Argentina. It's grilled sausage (cut butterfly style), toasted or grilled “crusty bread," and traditional Argentine sauce, Chimichurri. It's nothing short of a palate orgasm.
Andrew Scerbo, Executive Producer of George to the Rescue

Chicken Parmesan Hero from Manganaro's Hero Boy
Brian Mait, segment producer of 1st Look

Bánh mì from Nhu Lan’s near Chicago’s Lincoln Square neighborhood. It’s lemongrass chicken made with marinated chunks of pulled chicken, pickled daikon radish, fresh carrots, hot chilies, and plenty of cilantro.
Stephanie Kurtz, supervising producer of 1st Look

The Arm Drip is a New Orleans inspired mess-of-a-sandwich made from a house-baked roll, lots of juicy roast beef, gravy, onions, swiss, and mynez (mayonnaise for you non-N’awlins folk), which can be found at Bayou Bakery in Arlington, VA.
Maureen Giannone, segment producer of 1st Look

Anything my dad makes
Steven Madura, production assistant of 1st Look

The Sausage Egg and Cheese with Hot Sauce at Happy Star Lunch Truck in Philadelphia (always at 32nd and Market). To this day, the best sandwich I’ve ever eaten. They exclusively use sriracha as their hot sauce and it’s perfect. Something about the bread they use  makes it amazing too. It's 2.50 a sandwich!
John Christon, LXTV graphic designer

Peanut butter banana sandwiches! Mmm, and I definitely prefer chunky pb to the creamy junk.
Allison Jarvis, segment producer of 1st Look

Calamari in a bocadillo from any hole in the wall in Spain or the char siu in the Banh Mi Saigon at Banh Mi Saigon Bakery in Chinatown (NY). This question stresses me out…
Linda Vongkhamchanh, NBC / LXTV editor

And this age-old question is further investigated this weekend on the "Best Thing Between Two Buns" episode of 1st Look. Tune in Saturday, October 8 at 7:30PM and 1AM after Saturday Night Live!
