Owen Wilson stars in Woody Allen's latest, as a struggling novelist who vacations in the City of Lights with his fiancee, played by Rachel McAdams, and her family, only to fall for the charms of the city and, more specifically, a beautiful fashion student played by Marion Cotillard. Opens May 20.
The Writers Guild Awards nominations were announced today, and as is typical of such things, there was a mix of forgone conclusions and pleasant surprises, but nobody had a better day than Steve Zaillian, who scored not one, but two nods.
Zaillian received two nominations in the Adapted Screenplay category, for his work on both "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" and "Moneyball." In the pleasant surprise category were Will Reiser's cancer comedy "50/50" and Tom McCarthy's "Win Win," a pair of genuinely funny and insightful movies that didn't get anywhere near their due at the box office.
As for forgone conclusions, was there any doubt Woody Allen would get the call for "Midnight in Paris"? Or that "The Descendants" would be in the mix for Adapted Screenplay?
