How's About “Rubik's Cube: The Movie”!

If you can make a movie out of an amusement-park ride or a website or a video game or a board game or a gel-filled doll, is it really such a stretch to think you could make one about the Rubik's Cube?

Creative Artists Agency, the folks who represent the likes of George Clooney and Brad Pitt, are shopping the rights to a film about the best-selling toy of all time, Erno Rubik's six-sided mechanical puzzle, reported What's Playing. Apparently the agency hopes to package the project with one of their A-list stars.

We loved the Rubik's Cube, and at one point--when were, like, 12--could solve one in about 90 seconds. And we've greatly enjoyed films like "The Social Network," "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Resident Evil," but we have to admit, we're having trouble getting our heads around this one.

Word is that one idea for the film is to make it about a Rubik's CUbe competition, which, if you recall the glory days of "Real People" and "That's Incredible," were unmitigated nerd-fests. And competitive cubing was (not "is," but "was") a young person's game--are they gonna have Clooney play a Rubik's Cube coach? Sort of a Burgess Meredith in "Rocky" character?
