Joel Edgerton to “Kill Bin Laden”

The day after Osama Bin Laden was killed, it was learned that there was already in the works a major motion picture about the hunt for him. Now, four day after that, the film has its star.

Joel Edgerton, a soon-to-be famous Australian actor, has been cast in Kathryn Bigelow's "Kill Bin Laden," reported 24 Frames. He'll play a special-ops agent who's the member of an elite squad of commandos.

The film was originally to be about an earlier failed attempt to kill Bin Laden, but screenwriter Mark Boal, who collaborated with Bigelow on "The Hurt Locker," quickly reworked his script in the wake of Sunday's events, presumably with a happier ending.

Edgerton came to the attention of U.S. audiences last year with "The Square," a great noir thriller which he co-wrote with his brother, Nash, who also directed. Joel also had a role in the 2010 Sundance hit "Animal Kingdom," a great crime family drama set in Melbourne.

You can next see Edgerton Spet. 9 opposite Tom Hardy in the MMA family drama "Warrior," and then on Oct. 14 in the prequel/reboot of "The Thing."
