Before he ever put on boxing gloves, Mike Tyson raised pigeons in the projects of Bedford Stuyvesant. Now, his first love has landed him a TV show on Animal Planet.
"Taking on Tyson" will take audiences "inside the intensely competitive and bizarrely fascinating world of pigeon racing," according to the channel. The show will feature Tyson going "toe-to-toe" against the very cream of the crop of the pigeon racing world.
“Tyson’s passion for his pigeons takes my breath away,” said Marjorie Kaplan, president and general manager of Animal Planet Media in the release.
Tyson sounds excited, too. "I want people to see why we love these birds," he said. Tyson is also quoted saying the word "monumental" which, frankly, just never happened).
Even though the show doesn't debut until 2011, the folks at PETA are not loving it. The show will "showcase cruelty and profiteering at animals' expense," the animal rights organization's president, Ingrid Newkirk told PopEater.com.
