Tom Hardy Invited to Hunt Vampires With Abe Lincoln

Nobody's done more in 2010 to advance their career than Tom Hardy, whose supporting role in "Inception" sent casting agents scurrying for his phone number. His latest offer is to star alongside our 16th president in a film about vampires.

Hardy has been asked to play Henry Sturgess in "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," reported Bloody Disgusting (by way of Playlist). The film is based on Seth Grahame-Smith's novel of the same name, and tells the story of how the Great Emancipator vowed at an early age to kill as many vampires as possible, a mission he is aided in pursuing by Sturgess, who is sort of the Rupert to Abe's Buffy.

The film is being produced by Tim Burton, who optioned the book in March after seeing the trailer that was produced by the publisher, with Timur Bekmambetov ("Wanted") directing a screenplay adapted by Grahame-Smith. The film is due June 22, 2012.

Hardy's already got a number of projects lined up for 2011, including "Warrior," "This Means War" and "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy," and he's been cast to play the bad guy in the next Batman movie. Well played, sir.
