America Has a New No. 2 Social Network

Facebook is the undisputed king of social networks -- at least for now, as Google+ tries to make a dent in its throne.

But American has a new No. 2 social network and it's not Twitter, or even MySpace. But instead the social network for professionals, LinkedIn has passed MySpace to become the second most popular social network in the country.

LinkedIn, fresh off of a recent re-branding, had 33.9 million unique visitors in June, according to comScore, the web's analytics firm.

During the same period, MySpace had 33.5 million Americans log on. The numbers show that MySpace is on a downward spin as well.

Over the past year, the company has seen its traffic dip further. MySpace still has an estimated 130 million active users, compared to 115 million for LinkedIn and Facebook's 160.8 million unique users.

LinkedIn went public last May to roaring success. It was watched by many as a potential bell weather for how social networking sites might be received on the open market.
