Anyone Can Buy Google Glass For $1,500

Google Glass

Anyone in the United States can now buy the beta version of Google Glass for $1,500. The device comes with frames or sunglasses.

Google decided it had enough inventory to create a "more open beta," and allow anyone in the United States to buy the Glass Explorer Edition for $1,500.

The beta Glass will come with either regular glasses frames or sunglasses so users can add prescription lenses or use them as-is, according to a Google. The announcement, made on Google+ Tuesday, came about a month after Google had a one-day Glass sale. Google said the response was "overwhelming". From a post last week:

A few weeks ago, we opened up our site for a single day. The response was overwhelming – we almost ran out of inventory and had to close things down early. We’ve since built our inventory back up and plan to continue to accelerate new ways to expand the program in the weeks and months ahead. Our hope is to bring Glass to new Explorers, like optometrists, sports lovers, online retailers, cooks and travelers, who (like you!) can get in early and help make Glass better as part of our open beta, ahead of a wider consumer launch.

Apparently building up its inventory was key to Google's "open beta," which is what some had suspected. Basically Google had to invest in the Taiwanese company Himax Display to make more than 2 million units a year, according to Variety.

Those interested can purchase the wearable devices at glass.google.com/getglass/shop/glass, but please review Google's Glass etiquette before using to avoid being creepy or rude.
