Apple Gets Patent for Water-Detection Technology

Though Amazon is reportedly stashing up patents to create its own version of a smartphone, one thing it won't be able to patent is the water damage indicator. That one goes to Apple, which has add that patent to its array before the iPhone was released.

It's something you've seen a hundred times before: that nasty little white strip in cell phones that changes colors whenever the phone gets wet. It's great for voiding warranties!

Apple's version is inside the phone and luckily, unlike some others, does not change colors on overly humid days.

It's unclear why Apple wants it patented this late in the game, but they recently received it (after waiting since December 2006). It will, though, make it more difficult for everyone else who already uses this technology.
