A Foxconn employee jumped to his death Wednesday, marking the first suicide at the notorious Apple supplier since the company began taking public steps to curb a rash of suicides at the Chinese factory.
The 23-year-old worker jumped jumped from his apartment outside the plant in the southwestern city of Chengdu.
The unnamed employee had joined the company last month.
Apple's labor practices have been under the spotlight since a series of suicides and reports of harsh working conditions at the Cupertino company's Chinese supply factory.
Foxconn employs 1.2 million people in China to assemble products such as the iPad, iPhone and MacBook Pro.
The company also builds products for other technology companies such as Microsoft of Hewlett-Packard,
Apple CEO Tim Cook has said it is a priority for his company to improve the working conditions at Foxconn.
In January Apple joined the Fair Labor Association, which was commissioned to conduct an audit of the factory.
Cook has also personally visited the factory on multiple occasions, including when Steve Jobs was still alive and the CEO of Apple.
