Google Postpones Nexus Prime, Ice Cream Sandwich Event

Google has postponed its Samsung Mobile Unpacked 2011 event in San Diego next week, prompting rumors the search giant may have moved the event because of the death of Steve Jobs.

The Oct. 11 event, timed to coincide with CTIA Fall, was rumored to launch Android's new version, Ice Cream Sandwich and Samsung's Nexus Prime smartphone, according to PCMag. Phandroid speculated that the postponement could be due to the death of Steve Jobs -- obviously a new product could get lost in the media frenzy.

So far, only Samsung has released a statement about the event:

Samsung and Google have decided to postpone the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event during the CTIA in San Diego, previously scheduled for Oct. 11. Under the current circumstances, both parties have agreed that this is not the appropriate time for the announcement of a new product. We ask for your understanding regarding any inconvenience caused. We will announce a new date and venue in due course.

The wording of "appropriate time" does seem to lend credence to the Jobs theory, doesn't it? We don't think either Google or Samsung will opt-out of a press conference launch, so we think there will definitely be another event in the next few weeks.
