How the Japan Disaster Could Affect the Gadget Industry

The diaster in Japan could affect our supply of computer batteries and LCD's, including the iPad's parts.

Many of the pieces used in Sony and Hitachi products are from plants located in the disaster area, says All Things Digital.

Same goes for the iPad. Wayne Lam, an analyst form iSuppli, who took apart the new iPad 2 says, while the battery pack is marked "assembled in China," the actual batteries are marked "Apple Japan." He says that's sufficient evidence that the parts came from Japan.

Luckily, for now, this isn't a key time for computer purchasing, however, if the power grid becomes effected, the disasters in Japan could have a long lasting effect on our tech industry.
