A company called Apple Electric Car filed for a display device patent on an electric golf car, causing many to speculate Apple was getting into the electric car market.
The patent identified its inventors as Anthony Bonito of Davie, Fla., and Perry Pierce of Ft. Collins, Colo., and the assignee as the Miami-based Apple Electric Car, Inc. The names and geography alone should tip off people that it's likely not the Cupertino, Calif. tech company behind the patent which will give a golf car a display device mounted on the dash.
Still, the idea was too attractive for many not to speculate, including CNN which said, "Still, Apple and electric cars seem to be a marriage just waiting to happen," and Patently Apple began a long recap of Apple's talks with electric auto-maker Tesla ending with, "Will this possible clue lead to something more substantive down the road? Only time will tell."
