Secret of Tech Billionaires' Success: Routine

A new report says that tech billionaires and successful chief executives all have something in common: they love routine.

Steve Jobs had 100 Issey Miyake black turtlenecks that he wore every day so he wouldn't have to think about what to wear, according to the Australian Courier-Mail. Similarly, Facebook founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has a closetful of gray t-shirts, apparently 20, for the same reason.

Others, such as Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, take regular saunas, and Tumblr founder David Karp eats the same breakfast every day: pancakes, eggs Florentine, avocado and bacon.

The idea of a routine isn't a new one. According to the piece, researchers at Harvard Business School says that this routine helps people cope with stress and repetition in the office can be good for business. Twitter's Dorsey has his entire week divided up into different tasks for each day and Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian says list-making keeps him on track, including writing down the three biggest tasks of the day and completing them.

Routine can also be called being organized, which is likely an important part of success. However, imagination, which Einstein said was more important than knowledge or intelligence, is much less predictable.
