Twitter Execs Create All-Female #Angels

Twitter executives and their former colleagues have joined to create #Angels, a new, all-female investment group, according to reports.

The group plans on using its tech knowledge to find and "groom" the startups it funds, according to the Re/Code. Apparently each member will invest individually but advice will come from the team.

The entire investment team is female, something interesting in the wake of the recent sexual discrimination suit brought by Ellen Pao against venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins. Certainly women have lagged behind in both tech leadership and in venture capital, so #Angels is newsworthy for starting a fund run by women alone.

“We’re focused on funding the best teams pursuing the best ideas just like any other investor,” Jana Messerschmidt, an #Angels member and vice president of global business development for Twitter told Re/code. “That said, we’re all personally very passionate about diversity in technology and we’ll share more when we have a broader story to tell on that front.”

Others on the #Angels team include Twitter General Counsel Vijaya Gadde, Global Head of Media Katie Jacobs Stanton, and Director of Corporate Development Jessica Verrilli, the Re/Code reported. Others include Twitter's former vice president of North American Media and Director of Product.
