Twitter To Let You Direct Message Anyone

After watching the success of photo- and video-sharing apps like Snapchat, Twitter is working on bringing the direct message to all its users, according to a report.

Twitter has been testing the direct-messaging product which would allow users to send direct, secret messages without following one another, AllThingsD reported. The service is now running in limited beta.

However, the report goes on to say that Twitter is thinking of creating a whole different product for direct messaging, much like Snapchat, which shares ephemeral photos and videos that self-destruct within 10 seconds. Twitter has also met with employees from other messaging services -- which seems like it's checking out which startup to buy.

Adding a direct-messaging product could enhance Twitter's value, especially just before its initial public offering.
