Prabhakar Raghavan, the head of Yahoo’s Labs unit, is leaving the company to take a job at Google -- just after Yahoo chief executive Scott Thompson announced major layoffs and cuts for both the company and Raghavan's division.
Raghavan, who had been at Yahoo for seven years, did not say what his new position at Google would be, but Yahoo released this statement: “Yahoo! thanks Prabhakar Raghavan for his dedication and contributions to Yahoo! for the past 7 years. We wish him well in his next endeavor. Ash Munshi, CTO, will assume leadership for Y! Labs.”
Thompson has now hired the Boston Consulting Group to streamline Yahoo and determine its future path, according to AllThingsD. As we have written before, Thompson is all about getting Yahoo in the black (and how!) this quarter so he looks like a fabulous CEO. He cares about the short game, not the long one, because it's obvious he wants a better gig somewhere else. This little stint at Yahoo will be his resume builder.
In the meantime, all talent at Yahoo would wisely be jumping ship to avoid the company implosion.
