iPad 3 to Feature Fancy New LED-Backlit Screens: Report

Apple is expected to have a third-generation iPad ready for release in the spring of 2012, and new rumors out of Asia suggest that we'll see a new LED-backlit screen with Retina Display resolutions.

Apparently, suppliers have shown Apple two different types of LED-backlit screens for the next-gen tablet. "One of the new LED light bar designs has proposed to keep the light bar in a single-bar form factor but with two LED chips inside; the other has suggested using dual-LED light bars," say the source. Furthermore, the resolution of the screen is expected to be "higher than 2048 by 1536," putting it in Retina Display territory.

We're also sure to see a slimmer, lighter form factor as well. We'll see how it all pans out.
