You don't have to wait for a ballot initiative or a constitutional convention to rewrite California's long and messy constitution.
A new effort, rethinkcali.com, will allow people, via the web or Twitter, to rewrite the state's governing document, wiki-style. It will be interesting to see how this works: wiki-style exercises often lead to lots of new additions. California's constitution needs something different: serious pruning. Far too many tax and spending measures -- the kinds of decisions that should be left to our elected representatives -- are in the constitution.
