Black Pancake Records Hosts Vinyl Dreams Pop-Up

Lower Haight has two record stores in one

Black Pancake Records, a retail seller of used dance music vinyl, has found an inventive way to keep the inventory feeling fresh. The Lower Haight store has struck up a partnership with Vinyl Dreams, an online seller of new tunes based in the neighborhood, to host a pop-up shop of new records.

A wall features Vinyl Dreams' recommended picks for each week, culled from a select group of international labels and distributors, and there are bins of new product. Founder Mike Battaglia, a former electronica buyer for Amoeba Music, sends out a massive email newsletter each week with even more possibilities.

Whereas Black Pancake's offerings can span the many, many genres of dance music, Vinyl Dreams hones in on specialist micro-genres of house music including Balearic and nu-disco, sophisticated productions that often fall below 120 beats per minute into a sensual slow groove. Both sellers have planned a big sale for January 12-13.
