Kafani Is Ready Now

Oakland rapper makes club hits

Bay Area radio stations -- and KMEL 106.1 in particular -- have a reputation for not playing enough
local music. But give KMEL some credit: They helped break Jonn Hart's "Who Booty" last fall, and
this past winter they’ve been spinning Kafani’s “Swag Swerve" after supporting his previous singles "She Ready" and "Fast (Like a Nascar)."

Kafani isn’t even on a major label (he used to record for eOne Music), instead opting for his own label, Ice King Music. Still, his tribute to pimping and flossing in the club has turned into a popular club hit. On April 4 at Mezzanine, the Oakland rapper will open for white-hot Atlanta rapper Trinidad James, author of the smash single "All Gold Everything." Between the two of them, there should be plenty of swaggin’ and swervin’.
