Fans quickly took to social media Thursday morning, mostly to decry the violence at all sporting events, but reacting specifically to a fatal stabbing of a Dodgers fan outside AT&T Park in San Francisco, where the Los Angeles team was playing the Giants.
Jonathan Denver, 24, an apprentice plumber in Fort Bragg was killed, after he left the game with his brother and father - all of them wearing Dodgers blue.
On Twitter and Facebook, many blamed "alcohol and stupidity" for brutality at games, and some were praying for the victims at their families. Police offered no immediate evidence of that, however, stemming from this stabbing.
The Giants-Dodgers rivalry is regarded as one of the most competitive in American baseball, stemming in part, from when both teams used to play in the New York City area before coming out West. And sometimes that rivalry plays out brutally among the fans.
