Mike Leake was added to the Reds roster for Game 4 of the NLDS and will start for Cincinnati. That means Johnny Cueto will be ineligible to play for the Reds through the NLCS.

The mystery is over: Mike Leake was officially added to the Reds roster for the remainder of the National League Divisional Series and will make a start in Game 4 against the Giants Wednesday.

The corresponding move for Dusty Baker's squad is to remove Johnny Cueto from the roster -- the ace is now ineligible for the remainder of the NLDS and, should the Reds advance, the National League Championship Series as well.

Cueto was recently diagnosed with a mild oblique strain and was unlikely to pitch in this series to begin with.

"Major League Baseball announced today that it has approved a roster substitution for the Cincinnati Reds due to an injury sustained by right-handed pitcher Johnny Cueto," MLB said in a statement. "Cueto will be replaced on the Division Series roster by right-handed pitcher Mike Leake."

Leake, as CSNBayArea.com's Andrew Baggarly notes, has allowed 17 home runs and 15 walks in 16 home starts. Pablo Sandoval's been particularly strong against Leake, going 7-for-10 in his career with two home runs and three RBI. Hunter Pence is also 6-for-18 with a home run and 2 RBI against Leake, and Buster Posey's 4-for-8 with a homer and 3 RBI.

In other words, the stats line up nicely for the Giants against Leake, who will face off against Barry Zito, who's never won at Great American Ballpark in his career.

Should the Giants win on Wednesday, Mat Latos will start Game 5 for the Reds. Latos was Baker's other option on Wednesday, but the Reds decided to roll with Leake because Latos would be pitching on extremely short rest.
