Tim Lincecum Joins Twitter

The NL Cy Young award-winner's Twitter account has been verified, with a pretty blue badge to prove it.

One of Major League Baseball's biggest names joined Twitter this week, but his first tweet was about soccer.

"@clint_dempsey @ussoccer just want to say congrats to you and the team on a great job and making the US proud" Tim Lincecum tweeted after the US National soccer team's 1-0 win against Italy. "So pumped for you guys."

The San Francisco Giants pitcher started his Twitter account Thursday under the username @TimLincecum.

Despite the fact that Timmy has only issued four tweets, as of Friday afternoon he had already attracted more than 23,000 followers. He's only following seven, including @RedBull, @SFGiants and @MLB.

Lincecum was a little late to the Twitter game, so it's no surprise his former Giants teammate, outfielder Cody Ross, wasn't sure it was really him.

"@timlincecum Timmy!" @IamCodyRoss tweeted. " Welcome buddy. Tweet me back if this is really you. If not its a immediate #unfollow. Tired of agents tweeting 4 players."

"@IamCodyRoss What up buddy?" Lincecum replied. "Ya this is me...hit me up me soon, be great to catch up."

Assuming it really is Lincecum and not an agent, "Twitter just got a whole lot Freakier," as @MLB put it.
