Giants Trophy Flying First Class to NYC on Bearded Plane

The Giants don't mess around when it comes to doing things with panache, and the tour of the World Series trophy this offseason will be no exception.

On Thursday, the World Series trophy will "board" the Giants customized, bearded Virgin Airlines Airbus plane and head for New York to begin the World Championship Trophy Tour. The beard is for "The Beard," aka Brian Wilson.

The trophy will be flying first class (!) on "Fly Bye Baby," and Giants CEO and President Larry Baer will also be on the flight, where he will host a Twitter chat at 35,000 feet.

Folks who are on the flight from San Francisco to New York will be able to get pictures with the trophy and Baer, making this arguably the greatest cross-country flight in the history of mankind.

Anyone can join the Twitter chat with Baer by using the hashtag #sfgtrophy or #myvxeperience.

The flight departs at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday but unfortunately appears to be already sold out. (Not surprising.)

Look, this whole thing is absolutely bananas. Think about it: on a bearded airplane, the guy who runs a baseball team will hold a Twitter chat while a trophy sits in a first-class seat during a cross-country flight.

That is insane. But it's also awesome. Kudos to Virgin and the Giants for putting together a fun public relations event that is somehow relatable for fans and the average person on an airplane.
