Giants Find New Way To Help Bryan Stow

Third base coach uses his off-season talents to help injured Giant's fan.

The San Francisco Giants have found a new way to help Bryan Stow and his family. It comes from the musical chops of third base coach Tim Flannery.

Flannery’s day job is on the baseball field, but he is also a well known musician and plays in the band “The Lunatic Fringe.”

Flannery’s band did a couple benefit concerts for Stow during the off-season and now one of those gigs is a DVD. The concert featuresd famed Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir.

“The only way I knew I could help Bryan Stow and his family was through my music,” Flannery said. “We thought maybe we could raise some money, some awareness. We got angry and talked of never letting hate take away from the good. We decided to love harder, and not let the light be darkened in any way.”

It was recorded by BamMagazine.com and BAM TV.

The Giants will release the 72-minute DVD at a pre-game ceremony before Tuesday night’s game against the San Diego Padres. It will sell for $20 with the proceeds benefiting the Bryan Stow Foundation.

Fans can buy the DVD at Giants Dugout Stores and online.

People probably will want to buy the DVD because of the philanthropy, but for the record: Flannery’s music is described as “Americana, with both folk and bluegrass as major influences, along with music from his Celtic roots.”

Stow is an avid Giants fan. He was attacked outside Dodger Stadium following the 2011 Opening Day game in LA.  He suffered severe brain injuries and while he is making progress in his recovery, he is most likely permanently disabled.
