San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy is letting his loyalties be known with his choice of head gear.
The Giants tweeted a photo of Boch donning a San Francisco 49ers hat Thursday morning. He wore the hat during this pre-game press conference in the dug out with reporters.
The Giants play a day game against the Rockies at AT&T.
The tweet: Bruce Bochy "This is in honor of Alex" #SFGiants @49ers #LikeABoss.
It's in response to 49er quarterback Alex Smith getting in trouble with the NFL for wearing a Giants hat during a post game press conference following Sunday night's football against the Lions.
Smith's violated the NFL dress code policy which says you can't wear a non-NFL sponsored item for 90 minutes following the game.
According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, the NFL fined Smith $15,000 for wearing the hat. However, per Maiocco, Merton Hanks at the league office (a former 49er himself) decided to rescind the fine and let Smith off with a warning instead.
"So it’s weird,” Smith said via the San Francisco Chronicle. “I could wear a Polo shirt after the game and they’re not going to fine me.”
