Disneyland Halloween Starts Early

Autumn arrives ahead of schedule in Anaheim; what treats does the park have in store?

SPOOKY SEPTEMBER: People may gently bemoan the holidays arriving earlier each year, but you rarely hear that about Halloween; there's something about seeing candy corn in your grocery store aisle that says autumn is on its way, and that's really a thrill everyone can get behind, particularly when summer finished in a swelter. But we're way beyond candy corns in the aisles this September; Disneyland is kicking off its popular Halloween to-dos and decorations especially early this year, on Friday, September 14.

FRIGHTENING FAVORITES: There are the headliners with the Halloween events and happenings at the Anaheim theme parks, like the "A Nightmare Before Christmas" re-do of the Haunted Mansion (which is on through the remainder of the year) and Space Mountain's Ghost Galaxy (like space, but ghostier). We're fond of the 300 pumpkins that grin along Main Street, and the fact that each one is different. Oh, and can we give a spooky shout-out for the autumnal treats cooking up at the Candy Kitchen, speaking of Main Street? Nope, it isn't quite candy cane time yet, but we'll take a caramel apple that looks like a jack 'o lantern, please and thank you.

OTHER TO-KNOWS: The event headliner of a Disneyland Halloween is Mickey's Halloween Party. This is a separate ticket from the park, please note, and it only happens on select nights (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays starting on Sept. 28). But here's the sweet part, especially if you've got tots: It's all about trick-or-treating at Disneyland. Ohhh yeah. It's like a dream wish on top of a fun wish, right there, if you're under 10 or so. For more info on ticket prices and dates, ride your broomstick straight for the Disneyland Halloween site.
