QUAKIES A-QUAKIN': A true foliage fan probably doesn't want to land on a specific area, region, or tree. They want to be a big-minded seeker and keep an open heart for the most peaceful places and colorful stretches of leafy goodness. Still, let's be honest. The aspen? Everyone loves it, whether it has gone yellow or not. It's a mythical tree, with plenty of story and its quaky-shaky nature only lends to its chlorophyll-y charms. Whenever we hear of groves of aspens starting to go we make note, and we hear that is indeed the case at North Lake Tahoe. But, where to go?
SOME SUGGESTIONS: Blackwood Canyon on the West Shore is a good spot, say locals (you can also cycle or skate in the area, adding a whiz-by element to your leaf-peepery). And Eagle Rock offers some stretching, leaf-lovely views. The last two weeks of October and the first two of November are said to be the hot time for aspenage, says the director of the Incline Village Crystal Bay Visitors Bureau. Should that period kind of become its own month? For leaf lovers? We're going to name it Octvember. Kind of snappy? Maybe not. Anywho, less talk, more leaf-looking. See you at the aspens!
