LA Free Museums Deal

Heading up to Los Angeles and want culture? LA Tourism can help.

CULTURAL LOS ANGELES: A few snarky sorts would cluck at seeing the words "cultural" and "Los Angeles" in the same space, but they should probably snark down; the not-so-vapid city made world headlines this year for a certain boulder-centered piece at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and city-wide art events like Artmageddon and Pacific Standard Time are the norm. Discover Los Angeles -- they oversee tourism in the city -- is doing one better, for out-of-towers who swing through the City of Angeles from Oct. 1 through Nov. 11: They've rounded up some 30 museums that'll be free for people booking hotels through discoverlosangeles.com.

AND THAT'S NOT ALL! We always wanted to type that, complete with exclamation point. No, really, that's not all; museum store discounts are in the mix, too, which is nothing to sniff at with the holidays on the horizon.

HOW THIS WORKS: If you're planning a Los Angeles stay during that time period, you'll need to book two or more nights and read some other fine print. The list of participating institutions is stellar: The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botantical Gardens is on there; so is the Natural History Museum and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where the aforementioned boulder artwork is located (it is called "Levitated Mass," of course). Really, the only issue with this roster is it'll be hard to choose what you want to hit. Oh, and before we go? Amtrak is on this deal, too, meaning your transport to LA'll be less harried and more nap-nice.
