Otter Days

SEA-CUTE SYMBOL: When you think of Monterey, what's the first image to come to mind? Is it Cannery Row on a foggy evening? A twisty cypress that's been shaped by heavily salted ocean winds? Maybe and maybe. But for many people the sea otter is nearly synonymous with the area. So synonymous that the city's visitors site makes the otter the first photo you see when stopping by. No, Monterey hasn't contracted a group of welcome otters to stand at the city limits and greet travelers (although the moment they do we're so there), but Monterey Bay Aquarium is home to several of the bewhiskered celebs. And those celebs will be the focus of Otter Days at the institution.

THE DETAILS: Yep, there will be kidly to-dos on Saturday, Sept. 24 and Sunday, Sept. 25. Yep, there will be special otter presentations. But the focus of the weekend is on saving our state's otters, and what we can do to make sure they're the whiskery symbol of Monterey forever. If you need a little live video otter action -- and who doesn't? -- this is the click you need to make now.
