Palm Springs Packages for Marilyn Fans

Have you seen the Forever Marilyn sculpture yet? This could be your time.

REMEMBERING A STAR: When a famous, much-written-about, extremely large artwork lands in a city for a short period of time, one expects that the local news will send a reporter out and a blogger or two in the area will spread the word. But Palm Springs has gone above and beyond in its warm welcome of the Forever Marilyn sculpture, the 26-foot-tall statue that will be at the corner of Palm Canyon Drive and Tahquitz Canyon through early next summer. When the statue went up it was met with much fanfare, and a Marilyn movie series was planned around it (it of course featured "The Seven-Year Itch," which includes the famous white dress scene, which the artwork pays tribute to). But Marilyn aficionados hoping to make the trek to the desert should also know that several hotels in the area are currently offering "Marilyn-inspired packages." The timing could not be better; not only are the deals an homage to the artwork, but Ms. Monroe passed away 50 years ago this week, meaning a tribute concert is planned at the statue on Sunday, Aug. 5.

IF YOU ARE GOING: Whether you want to see the concert or simply get to Palm Springs to admire the epic artwork before it departs in June, be sure to eye the deals going on. The Saguaro's package is called the Hot & Blonde, and a champagne cocktail upon arrival is part of the fine print (that sounds oh-so-movie-star-ish to us). There are two different packages called Some Like It Hot -- one at the Hyatt Regency and one at the Alcazar -- while Pure Vida Resorts has a poolside cocktail as part of its A Weekend with Marilyn deal. For all the Marilyn-related tributes and happenings around the resorts, check out the full round-up.
