ONE LINE: There's always -- well, not always, but often -- that one line or turn of phrase on a site or in a brochure that sells us on something. With the Paso Robles Olive Festival, we'll be honest; it was the event's name. But that just piqued our interest. When we read "Free Olive Oil and olive product sampling" we didn't need to go any further. We know it will be a lovely, Paso-toasty August Saturday (Saturday, Aug. 20 to be specific). We know purveyors of olive goodness from all over the Golden State will be there. We know that seeing a wine glass or two is not unlikely. But the free sipping of golden oils and such? Signed. On.
NEED TO KNOWS: It's year eight for the festival, which includes a tasty contest and the serving of olive oil ice cream. (In our imagination it is studded with tiny Kalamata bits and is 80% savory and 20% sweet; what's your imagination saying?) If you can't make it, you can eye the festival recipes the organizers included on the site. We like when people do that. Nice gesture and all that.
