Pebble Beach Food & Wine 2012

Major toques and loads of lovely dishes mark the spring eats party.

PEBBLE PLATES: The AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am recently wrapped up, meaning that there are now two major sets of people out there. The first? Those who attended the golf spectacular, or played in it, and wish it wasn't over. And two? Those who did not go to Pebble Beach but who periodically daydream about being in Pebble Beach. The Venn Diagram-ish crossover between those two subsets is that they both long to be in the coastal gem, like pretty much anyone who has ever heard of it or visited or has been to a beach or who is on the planet. Because, it is Pebble Beach, and sandy stretches don't come much nicer or posher. Exhibit A? Pebble Beach Food & Wine, which runs in 2012 from April 12-15 and is billed as "(t)he nation's most luxurious food and wine experience." We can't quibble with that, given the fact that 75 big-name chefs are set to show. That's 75. Not five. Not a dozen. Yep.

HAPPY HALF DECADE: The tony taste party marks its fifth year in 2012, but a lot of the staples from years past will be present. The chefs, as we mentioned, are a huge part of the affair; Thomas Keller and Jacques Pepin are both slated to attend. There are also numerous events, like a Farm to Table Lunch and a Swine & Wine bash. It's glittery, it is yummy, it is starry, it is presented by American Express Publishing, and it happens in one of our state's most fairytale destinations. Dang. If only we could find something super stellar to say about this event.
