Tim Burton Retrospective

BURTON STYLE: Director Tim Burton fills his art and films with certain tropes and touches that fans instantly recognize. Think swirly swirls or out-sized, stretchy structures. Tiny waifs with large eyes. Tall skeletons with big hearts. Now many of those tropes and touches will be on display at the Los Angeles Museum of Art in a sprawling, multi-month retrospective. Tim Burton, an exhibit featuring some 700 photographs and drawings and paintings by the "Alice in Wonderland" director, debuts on Sunday, May 29 and runs through Halloween. Which is about as perfectly appropriate as perfectly appropriate things get.

SPECIAL EVENT: The director will be stopping by the Wilshire Boulevard museum for a two-hour book signing on Saturday, May 28. There are specifics, like where you'll need to purchase the books, so we recommend boning up on the need-to-knows before going. You'll also want to check out the museum's film schedule, too. Several of Mr. Burton's movies will play in the coming weeks. "Ed Wood" is up on May 28. Oh yeah. You'll go to Boardner's afterward, right? You must, since it is in the film.
