Fall Favorite: Big Sur Food & Wine Festival

Join a Magical Mystery Tour, a Pinot Walkabout, and more foodie fun times.

THE WINTER OF 2016-2017... was incredibly intense, to say the very, very least, along Highway 1 in and around Big Sur. Major slides, and the closure and rebuilding of Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge, gave much of the area an island-like character for the bulk of 2017, with businesses in the area vowing they'd love to see returning customers again as soon as possible. Annual events, too, became a question mark for a time, with those travelers who regularly call upon the beautiful area for a specific happening wondering if that happening would stay on the schedule for 2017. Wonder no longer, if you're a longtime supporter of the Big Sur Food & Wine Festival, a burnished, bite-filled autumn gem: It is ready to welcome those who love eats, and the area, and vinos, and views over the first weekend in November 2017. That's...

THURSDAY, NOV. 2 THROUGH SUNDAY, NOV. 5, and alighting on a few outings and meals will be a tantalizing challenge, whether you've attended before or this is your first time. A Magical Mystery Tour is a popular part of the weekend, and if you've wanted to eye some of "Big Sur's most unique and spectacular properties," complete with a tasting component, this is for you. There's a Pinot Walkabout at Post Ranch Inn, some jazzy flows at the Henry Miller Library, and a Hiking with Stemware lunch at Rancho Rico. And back at the Henry Miller? Some 20 wineries will show, then pour, then chat, for Wine & Swine ("bring your dancing shoes," is the sparkly suggestion). Ready to love upon Big Sur again, at one of the signature events on its annual calendar? Dance your way in this direction, with all of those quintessentially Big Sur vibes flowing around you as you proceed. Oh, and beginning on Oct. 13? Those vibes'll flow over the nearly open Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge.
