Fresh Air + Fun: Rush Ranch Open House

The Fairfield-close site will feature "a celebration of nature" as well as other homespun to-dos.

OPEN HOUSES... can occur on any day of the year, for most any festive-minded, get-to-know-us reason. But the concept of throwing the proverbial doors wide and welcoming people in seems to cleave especially well to all of the ideas that immediately symbolize spring, starting with the whole "throwing the proverbial doors wide" thing. It's that moment of the year when we're fully yawning and stretching and extending a hand, now that our hibernation periods have been completed (or, if not hibernation, then cocooning inside while binge-watching television series). As for an open house in the open air? That's even more springy, in spirit, and Rush Ranch is about to spread its spring-ready wings. The "...2,070 acres of marsh and rolling grassland" near Fairfield has been the scene of an annual open house for 27 years now, and its next activity-packed go-around is up on...

SATURDAY, APRIL 29: That's when the "celebration of nature" will flower, full of to-dos both vintage and nature-minded. The roster shall include "...guided marsh discovery hikes, live music, local artisans and craftspeople, blacksmithing, bats, birds of prey, farm animals, art show and sale, and fundraising raffle." There shall be chuckwagon vittles for sale during the 10 a.m. to 3 o'clock under-the-sun shebang, so bring cash for that or crafts. But admission? That's free. It's a fundraising day for the Rush Ranch Educational Council programs, which are overseen by the Solano Land Trust. Are you in an open-house-y headspace, now that winter is in our rearview mirror? Get your festive fill of the doors-wide concept at Rush Ranch.
