Gold Country Glasses: Nevada City Uncorked

It's a vino-sweet summer afternoon in the sweet, strollable town.

THE NORTHERN SIERRA FOOTHILLS? You can guess, though you likely know, that it is a fertile territory, one that boasts a whole range of libations and appetizing eats and special dishes and the edibles that reflect the good-vibe'd, gourmet-meets-hearty culinary character of the area. You could wend your way, quite blissfully, through the region, over many days, stopping here and there for a glass of wine or a quick bite before you roll, and you can also visit Nevada City Uncorked (there no "or" there, only an "and," because, really, you should do both). The fall's-ahead, summer's-wrapping event, which is scheduled for the final Saturday of August, won't send participants out on the highways and backroads of Nevada County. Rather, you'll pop by "17 different venues throughout downtown" Nevada City, places where you'll be able to get a lively sip of something or a down-the-hatch comestible. Not every one of those 17 places will be an eatery, with some bed-and-breakfasts and shops joining in the feed-the-crowd fun. The 2017 date is...

SATURDAY, AUG. 26, everything launches at 1, everything wraps by 4, and the "agricultural bounty of our northern Sierra Foothills region" is the foodful, wine-packed focus. A ticket ahead of the day? It's $35, but if you decide at the last minute, well, that's cool, too (it's $45 there, on the day-of, just keep in mind). A quintet of food tickets is part of your admission fee, and "unlimited wine tasting." Oh, and a wine glass, too, which is essential for the holding of wine. You dig Nevada City and the hilly, handsome, tree-pretty, river-riffic stretch it calls home? And you like getting to know new noshables and vinos? Keep this one in mind, Gold Country adventurers.
