THE SPOOKY SIERRA NO. 3: When you're a movie star, you expect to be occasionally cast in films with fantastical plot lines, the sorts of flicks threaded with a host of fictional wonders and curiosities. And so it also goes with the Sierra No. 3, the famous "Movie Star Locomotive" of Railtown 1897 State Historic Park. The Sierra No. 3 has appeared in several cinematic treats, such as "High Noon" and "Back to the Future 3," and it still toot-toots today for visitors to the Jamestown-based destination. HAUNTED HARVEST EXPRESS... we speak of, a family-sweet, charmingly Halloween-y outing that's all about train adventure, nifty costumes, and admiring the rolling Sierra foothills as you ride those rails. The train shall be "...whimsically decorated for Halloween," and the people on board, including you? Think of what sort of outfit you'd like to rock. The first weekend of October has a Critters & Creatures theme, the second is all about Superheroes & Villains, Pirates & Princesses rule weekend #3, and Witches and Wizards cast a spell on the final weekend of the month.
A TICKET? It's fifteen bucks for a grown-up and $10 for your kid, if your kid is ages 6 to 17 (kids under 5 get in for free). Gold Country, where Railtown 1897 is located, is rife with ghost stories and autumnal atmosphere, so think of your Haunted Harvest Express ride as a way to connect with some of that folklore and fun, just before Halloween rides in on its own spectral train.
