What are you doing on the last Saturday of summer 2016?

THE LAST DAY OF SUMMER... possesses magical properties. It is a statement so evident that it almost need not be said, but it feels good to say it, for time goes fast and the festive nature of summertime is something to treasure, in the moment, while we can. But while that final day of sweet summer is lovely, equally as lovely is the last Saturday of summertime, the Saturday that arrives just after the middle of September. For if the last day of summer is mid-week, we may not have time to rightfully send off the season, but a weekend day? Oh yeah, there's going to be a party. And a major mid-September party 'round about Southern California is the Long Beach Folk Revival Festival, a twangy-toned, winsome-of-outlook affair that seems to take the summer/autumn transition and make music from it. The 2016 date is Saturday, Sept. 17 -- just five days ahead of fall -- and the line-up of artists was just revealed, giving fans several months to daydream about one dance-y, strum-tastic soiree. A soiree spent in the sunshine at...

RAINBOW LAGOON PARK: The White Buffalo, Chuck Ragan, Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys, Big Bad Rooster, Honey Whiskey Trio, and several other banjo-wielding, harmonica-happy outfits'll be lending some sepia-hued sounds to the festival, which lasts a full half day (that would be 11 a.m. to 11 at night). A craft bazaar, good eats, craft beers, and an activity-filled area for the young'uns are part of the community come-together day. So should bluegrass and Americana and roots be the official music genres for that time juuuust before autumn's golden glow arrives? It feels like the right sort of tune style to send the summer off with; best peruse all now and book your ticket.
