Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk: Free Flicks Reveal

It's the 30th anniversary of the filmed locally "The Lost Boys," which will kick off the series.

ALWAYS AND FOREVER, it's going to be "The Lost Boys," that '80s-era horror-cool classic that is as associated with the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk as sand and ice cream and carousel horses. Always and forever, as long as there is a free summertime cinema series at the iconic oceanside attraction, there shall be true-hearted "The Lost Boys" love, with people recalling when it was filmed, back in 1987, and the locations that remain today (many, of course, given the boardwalk's propensity for keeping close to its vintage vibes). So when you hear that the schedule for the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk's annual Free Movies on the Beach is just ahead, you can probably (read: totally) guess that the vampire tale will make the cut. And, so it did, but 2017 is an extra-super-duper-special year for the film, as it is the 30th anniversary of its release. (When we typed "1987" before, that was likely a solid giveway.) Are you ready to celebrate this milestone for "The Lost Boys"? Then be in Santa Cruz on...

WEDNESDAY NIGHT, JUNE 21: The locally made flick is the big opener, but there are big flicks to come, too. "Back to the Future" follows on Wednesday, June 28, and "Grease" on the Wednesday after that, and several more winning Wednesday evening movies (yes, spoiler alert, Free Movies on the Beach is a Wednesday kind of thing). The whole line-up was posted on April 20, giving fans two months to plot out which pictures they'd like to see. And, of course, giving people plenty of time to line up the beach towels, snacks, and such. Is a movie next to the boardwalk a staple of summertime for you? In one of the most iconic summer-ready towns around? Here's your flick rundown, lovers of "The Lost Boys" and beach-ready film fare.
